Summary

The General Manager is responsible for overall leadership and operational excellence across manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and driver operations. This role oversees production, quality assurance, maintenance, inventory management, and transportation to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of products while meeting performance, safety, and quality standards. The General Manager partners with sales and account management teams for planning and forecasting, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operations Leadership:
    • Direct and coordinate all phases of plant, warehouse, and distribution operations, including driver management and fleet oversight.
    • Develop and implement production and distribution strategies to ensure timely and efficient delivery of products.
    • Manage execution of day-to-day operations within labor and operating expense budgets.
  • Quality & Safety:
    • Establish and maintain quality control procedures to meet company standards and customer expectations.
    • Ensure compliance with safety policies, DOT regulations, and ISO standards.
    • Act as operations lead for internal audits and management responsibility programs.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Evaluate production and distribution processes to identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement measures to increase productivity, reduce waste, and improve efficiency across all operational areas.
    • Drive Lean principles and high-performing work team development.
  • People & Leadership:
    • Select, supervise, and develop subordinate personnel across plant and distribution functions.
    • Coach leadership team members on standard work and continuous improvement practices.
    • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Planning & Forecasting:
    • Collaborate with Distribution Centers and account management teams on demand forecasting and volume planning.
    • Maintain proper inventory levels and safeguard company assets.
  • Budget & Compliance:
    • Assist in establishing and managing departmental budgets.
    • Ensure adherence to company standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
    • Facility & Contractor Management:
      • Oversee building maintenance, repairs, and upkeep to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
      • Manage relationships with third-party contractors and service providers, including negotiating contracts and monitoring performance.
      • Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and company standards for facility operations.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field preferred (Combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • EXPERIENCE:  
    • 8+ years of progressive management experience in operations, including manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, and fleet responsibilities.
    • Prior experience in a union environment preferred.
    • Strong understanding of budgetary development and management.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with manufacturing execution systems.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
