Job Summary

The Training Operations Manager primarily oversees operational training programs and projects. This role also leads a team of CDL Instructors and is a provides CDL training. This role is responsible for training classroom learning theory and behind-the-wheel training curriculum.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the hiring, development, and supervision of a team of field based CDL Training Instructors to prepare candidates to successfully attain a CDL license. 
  • Responsible for program content including observations, training, and coaching of operational expectations, service standards, and functional handheld computer knowledge, including developing materials to support training programs and ensure material stays up to date.  
  • Responsible for Program management for Driver Training, including coordination of training schedules for each Hometown’s instructional sessions and identifying/implementing measures of success to determine program effectiveness. 
  • Responsible for all records and compliance documents to ensure active status and compliance toward the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Provider Registry (TPR). 
  • Identifies, consults on and addresses driver safety concerns and suggests/implements training solutions. 
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to promote the program and ensure training targets are achieved. Participates in actively recruiting potential driver trainees. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners from Operations to deliver program results. 
  • Enhance the department and organization by accepting ownership of the responsibilities of the job.  Explore opportunities to increase personal value.  Be relentless in seeking continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of work experience required, or a minimum of five years of progressive job experience including people, project, or account management with leadership and influencing skills required.     
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a clean driving record within MVR guidelines required. CDL license needs to cover both automatic and manual vehicles. 
  • Experience with commercial driving preferred.
  • Required to attend and successfully pass CDL Instructor certification via third party.
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating training for both face-to-face and virtual instructor-led sessions.
  • Past driver training skills/management preferred.
  • Strong communication including verbal and written skills. 
  • Prior experience utilizing learning management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
