Job Description
The Examiner- Corporate Claims oversees the supervision of the of the Company’s Risk Management claims programs including, but not limited to, claim intake process, operates rapid response program, initial accident reporting and injury tracking, assigning and working with outside defense counsel and TPA. This position assists the Claims Manager with claim and accident data, trend analysis, countermeasures, legal changes, and related issues for company leadership.
What your day will look like:
- Carries out job responsibilities in accordance with the UNITED policies and applicable laws
- Conducts or participates in interviews and training United associates
- Assists with planning, assigning, and directs work on various projects
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems
- Receives occasional after hour calls and handles claim(s) issues accordingly
- Builds positive associate morale
- Direction and oversight of Third-Party Administrator (TPA) in the pursuit of fair, ethical, efficient, and cost- effective resolutions to claims, including evaluating performance of TPA claim handling and assisting claim representatives
- Assist with claims intake and coordinating initial investigation and fact gathering involving incidents, accidents, allegations and potential claims
- Pursuit of continuing education and professional training related to claim subjects to the approval and guidance of management
- Work with CCM (Corporate Claims Manager) on selection of claims related vendor selections such as investigators, outside defense counsel, experts, nurses, prescription services, and others as needed
- Participates in the operation and overall strategy of Rapid Response program
- Initiate records preservation and collaborate with Director of Risk Management, CCM and outside counsel on discovery responses for claims within authority level
- Travel as needed, fostering relationships within the company, participating in settlement evaluations and negotiations, attending mediations and/or educational opportunities
- Assists with integration and operation of the company’s RMIS data platform
- Periodically provides reports to internal customers such as Director of Risk Management, CCM, Environment, Health Safety Team, Human Resource, location leadership and other Company departments as needed
- Performs appropriate duties as assigned by management
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum age 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license required and obligation to maintain compliance with UNITED fleet policy
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position and compliance with UNITED safety policies
- Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the job
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance within Company guidelines
- Ability to maintain safety and security of Company assets
- Ability to utilize all Company provided resources and technology
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Bachelor’s Degree or associate’s degree; or 10 plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination or education
- 10 years experience of complex claims and multi-state litigation handling required
- CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), SCLA (Senior Claims Law Associate), AIC (Associate in Claims) or comparable claim designations preferred
- Possess existing adjuster licenses within our market, or the ability to obtain licensing within 90 days of hire required
- DOT experience preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite experience required
- SAP experience preferred
- OSHA experience required
- Knowledge of RMIS (Risk Management Information Systems) preferred
- Continuous sitting and typing
- Repeated standing, walking, and vehicle operation
- Limited bending, kneeling, climbing, grasping, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 10 lbs.
- Limited exposure to water, chemicals, and weather
- Occassional exposure to noise
- Ability to travel up to 25%
