Job Description
The Corp Manager - Instructional Design leads the team, project portfolio, and content development that drive business results across the enterprise. This position manages a staff of Instructional Designers and is accountable for the planning, prioritization, and on-time delivery of learning design projects. Partnering with subject matter experts, instructors, and business leaders. The role translates business needs into effective learning solutions and leads the responsible adoption of AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to accelerate content development while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and quality. This position works under the direction of the Director of Learning and Organizational Development.
What your day will look like:
- Carries out manager responsibilities in accordance with UNITED policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training associates
- Plans, assigns, and directs work for a staff of Instructional Designers and conducts performance evaluations, coaching, and development planning for direct reports
- Builds team capability through ongoing feedback, individual development plans, and succession readiness
- Manages the learning design project portfolio—intake, prioritization, scope, timelines, resources, milestones, and on-time delivery—and keeps stakeholders informed through status reporting
- Oversees and creates content aligned with short- and long-term business goals, applying tested instructional design theories and methods for instructor-led courses, online modules, and web-based learning aids
- Acts as quality assurance for training and content materials and ensures all design is compliant
- Helps define instructional, learning, and performance objectives and recommends instructional methods appropriate for content and learner characteristics
- Leads the responsible use of AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to accelerate drafting, editing, translation, and assessment writing, and establishes standards and quality reviews for accuracy, compliance, and brand consistency
- Partners with subject matter experts, instructors, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to research and develop course materials and take projects from concept to completion
- Analyzes and re-designs courses to meet or exceed UNITED standards and support self-paced learning
- Designs effective, high-impact learning solutions and applies modern methods such as mobile, personalized, and microlearning
- Conducts formative and summative evaluation through end user pilots and supports associates and instructors during implementation
- Uploads and maintains content in systems such as SharePoint and the LMS, ensures compliance with learning technology requirements, and updates curriculum to reflect operational and regulatory changes
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum age 18 years old
- Valid driver's license required and obligation to maintain compliance with UNITED fleet policy
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of experience leading learning design projects, programs, or teams required; direct people leadership experience preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite experience required; eLearning authoring tool experience preferred
- Must be proficient in the use of AI platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Copilot
- Demonstrated project management experience managing a portfolio of concurrent projects, timelines, and stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, associates, and vendors and to influence all levels of the organization
- Ability to demonstrate analytical, adaptability, customer service, independence, initiative, innovation, interpersonal, objective judgment, planning, organizing, problem solving, project management, and technical skills
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position and compliance with UNITED safety policies
- Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the job
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance, safeguard Company assets, and utilize all Company-provided resources and technology
Physical Requirements
Position will be required to comply with the CCBCU Personal Protective Equipment Program. Position is required to wear safety toed shoes when performing the following tasks: Operating Powered Industrial Equipment or Working in an Area where Powered Industrial Equipment is in use, Fleet Maintenance, Working with Palletized Product, Use of Hand Trucks/Dollies to Deliver Product, Cooler Services, etc.
