Summary

The Production Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving production equipment and processes to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing of products. This role combines responsibilities in safety, quality assurance, equipment operation, and preventive maintenance, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

Safety and Compliance

  • Champion workplace safety initiatives and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Document and report safety incidents and near-misses.
  • Enforce and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of HAZMAT, SDS, EPA, FDA, and OSHA compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.

Production Equipment Operation

  • Operate and monitor a variety of processing and packaging equipment, including filling, sealing, palletizing, robots, coding, and inspection systems.
  • Follow SOPs to ensure consistent, accurate, and efficient production.
  • Monitor production lines for deviations and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Maintain complete and accurate production records (e.g., batch records, logs, QC documentation).

Quality Control

  • Perform routine quality inspections and tests on finished goods and packaging materials.
  • Ensure product and packaging meet all specifications and food safety requirements.
  • Adjust machine settings to maintain quality output.
  • Comply with cleaning and sanitation programs.

Equipment Changeovers

•    Perform equipment changeovers according to production schedules.
•    Reduce changeover downtime and improve setup efficiency.
•    Record and manage machine settings for different product types.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

•    Execute preventive maintenance activities as scheduled (daily, weekly, monthly, annually).
•    Conduct equipment repairs and document activities in maintenance systems (e.g., SAP PM, EVOCON).
•    Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot breakdowns and resolve production issues.
•    Contribute to root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Continuous Improvement

•    Identify and address inefficiencies or unresolved equipment issues.
•    Participate in equipment upgrades, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional improvement projects.
•    Provide feedback for process optimization and quality enhancement.

Other Duties

•    Perform other related duties as required, including temporary redeployment to different departments or shifts.
•    Support changes and updates in supply chain or production processes as required by business needs.

Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities

•    High school diploma or equivalent required.
•    Minimum of 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
•    Experience operating automated equipment preferred.
•    Technical certifications in welding, PLC automation, electrical, plumbing, or automotive technology are a plus.
•    Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and flow charts.
•    Basic knowledge of chemistry and food safety practices.
•    Computer literacy and familiarity with maintenance software systems.
•    Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
•    Capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
