Summary
The Assistant Maintenance Manager will provide operational and strategic leadership to the maintenance organization. This individual will support the Maintenance Manager in leading a team of Maintenance Supervisors and Technicians, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations across all production and facility assets. The role will be instrumental in building preventive maintenance programs, driving reliability initiatives, and mentoring front-line leaders to elevate performance while ensuring the safety of our people, workplace and environment and meeting all company, legal and other requirements.
Safety and Compliance
- Lead and Champion workplace safety initiatives and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Document and report safety incidents and near-misses.
- Enforce and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of HAZMAT, SDS, EPA, FDA, and OSHA compliance requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment using 5S principles.
Leadership and People Development
- Supervise and mentor Maintenance Supervisors, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure supervisors are actively supporting their technicians, following maintenance schedules, and resolving frontline challenges.
- Facilitate training and skill development pathways for the maintenance team; identify gaps and implement solutions.
- Champion the principles of servant leadership, humility, and hands-on engagement with the maintenance team.
Maintenance Strategy and Execution
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to implement proactive maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Assist in managing the master preventive maintenance schedule in partnership with Maintenance Planners.
- Ensure maintenance standards, procedures, and KPIs are being followed and continuously improved.
- Support daily execution of the maintenance plan and coach supervisors in effective troubleshooting, scheduling, and technician support.
Reliability and Asset Management
- Monitor performance metrics (MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, downtime trends) to guide improvement actions.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and drive systemic solutions to recurring issues.
- Identify and help implement technology or process upgrades that drive uptime, cost reduction, and quality.
Communication and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as a liaison between Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Quality to ensure aligned priorities.
- Deliver clear updates to the Maintenance Manager on resource needs, operational constraints, and performance trends.
- Assist in contractor and vendor oversight where applicable.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and reliability best practices (e.g., TPM, RCM).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, production equipment, and maintenance best practices.
- Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Proven ability to lead and develop front-line teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field
- CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional)
- CMRT (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician)
- Background in beverage, food processing, or high-speed packaging environments
