Job Overview
The Mechanic Manufacturing I is responsible for repairing and maintaining all assets in the production facility, responding promptly to equipment breakdowns, performing planned and unscheduled maintenance work, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment. The Trainee pathway is designed to build full competency in every aspect of this role through four structured phases of on-the-job learning.
Duties & Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance Execution
- Learn and perform preventive maintenance and repair on beverage production equipment including motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery. Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, engineering specifications, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
Equipment Monitoring and Corrective Action
- Monitor and maintain multiple pieces of equipment by completing assigned PMs. Perform corrective maintenance work orders and fill out all required paperwork, work orders, parts usage, and order forms.
Problem Identification and Troubleshooting
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for abnormalities, and using precision measuring instruments and diagnostic testing.
Downtime Prevention and Line Support
- Control production downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques, monitoring compliance, and assisting production as needed to keep the line running at peak efficiency.
Communication and Milestone Achievement
- Communicate regularly with assigned Trainer and manager. Demonstrate understanding of each milestone through program assessments and leadership feedback throughout the course of the program.
Structured Learning and Program Progression
- Participate in four structured program phases, meeting key milestones by demonstrating proficiency and critical thinking skills in each area. Work alongside an assigned Trainer to build independent competency in all aspects of the Mechanic Manufacturing I role.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisory staff.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Candidates are not expected to possess all of these at hire, they will be developed and assessed throughout the 18 months.
Technical Skills:
• Read and follow SOPs, technical instructions, and engineering specifications
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and basic computer tools
• Monitor and adjust equipment speeds, temperatures, and liquid levels
• Make mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic adjustments
• Identify and troubleshoot complex process and equipment issues
• Read blueprints, electrical prints, and machine schematics (developed during the program)
• Foundational understanding of Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs) introduced in Phase 4
Professional and Behavioral Skills:
• Problem solving: ability to diagnose root causes and apply corrective action
• Time management: ability to manage multiple open work orders simultaneously
• Reliable attendance and commitment to the full 18-month program
• Self-directed initiative to grow technical expertise
• Clear and consistent communication with assigned Trainer and manager
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1 to up to 3 years of work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- The minimum level of education required for this position is a high school diploma or GED. No college degree, trade certification, or formal technical training is required at hire. All technical knowledge necessary to perform the role is developed on-site through the structured 18-month program.
- All candidates must pass a mechanical aptitude assessment as part of the selection process. Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices, basic mechanical systems, or production equipment is preferred but not a requirement
Work Environment
- Indoor production and manufacturing facility
- Environment is noisy and non-temperature controlled
- Employees are exposed to moving machinery, mechanical parts, liquids, lubricants, and industrial cleaning agents throughout the shift
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe footwear is required at all times
- Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation, and can expect frequent bending, reaching, crouching, and standing for extended periods during a shift.
