About This Opportunity
The Plant Buyer is responsible for executing purchases for plant operating supplies and plant maintenance requirements. The position is also responsible for monitoring maintenance spare part inventory levels and replenishing as required. The Plant Buyer makes contributions to improve longer term KPM (Key Performance Measure) results through leading and supporting various improvement initiatives. These contributions include organizing stock rooms, minimizing spare part inventory levels, and minimizing replacement part costs through supplier price checks and setting up alternate suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Inventory Organization/Control – Track maintenance spare part and operational supply level inventories and ensure accuracy of the inventory database in SAP. This involves organizing stock rooms in a logical and neat format, increasing inventories accordingly as new parts arrive, and depleting inventories as parts are consumed.
- Inventory Optimization – Analysis of spare part and operating supply inventory targets on a regular basis in efforts to optimize inventory levels. Considerations involved in setting inventory levels include part availability, part cost, importance to the operation, # used in the plant, lead times, usage history, etc.
- Reporting – Use the plant Check book/SAP to track outstanding spending for maintenance parts and operating supplies; work with maintenance and production managers to establish month end accruals; tracks and reports performance against the following KPMs; (Monthly Spare Part Inventory Levels, Monthly Purchasing Activity, Monthly Production and Material Control (PMC) Accuracy)
- Organize stock room layouts with very high inventory count, in a manner that is logical and user-friendly.
- Communicate with all hourly Maintenance associates and most members of management in coordinating plant purchases.
- Act as local contact for most plant vendors.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
- 1+ years related work experience, preferably in a consumer-packaged goods industry plant. Equipment knowledge is required.
- Supplier/Service Provider Knowledge required.
- Bilingual in French and English.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP and PMC software Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
