About This Opportunity

 

Reporting to the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), the Human Resources Specialist is responsible for providing Human Resources/Labour Relations and advice to business leaders enabling them to make informed business decisions.  Based in Brampton, this position will assist in supporting the Field Sales, Production, Warehouse and Distribution business units.  Currently, the Human Resources Specialist has a hybrid work schedule that requires in-person attendance at least three days per week.  The frequency of in-person attendance is subject to change.

 

Responsibilities

•    Provide advice, coaching and counseling support to local management in employee and/or labour relations: contract interpretation, discipline, attendance management and grievances
•    Support the grievance preparation and administration process working in conjunction with Union representatives, HRBP and internal business stakeholders
•    Track grievances and provide information, guidance, analysis, recommendations and assistance on issues and cases
•    Maintain a filing system for active grievances and arbitrations 
•    Lead or support investigations and fact finding on employee and labour relations issues 
•    Support leaders with policy compliance and performance management 
•    Lead the attendance management program ensuring effective training, communication and consistency within each business unit
•    Monitor and complete all relevant reports, tracking systems, and documentation, as needed
•    Conduct training for employees and managers on labour relations, attendance management, anti­ harassment and discrimination as required
•    Act as a change agent to support critical business initiatives and support leaders in all elements of effective change management
•    Work with employees to resolve questions or concerns and escalate as appropriate

Qualifications

•    University degree, college diploma or equivalent experience with a focus in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field 
•    1-3 years of human resources/labour relations experience
•    Proven knowledge of human resources practices, labour relations and employment law
•    Knowledge provincial employment and labour law
•    Strong organizational and time management skills to address heavy peak period work activities
•    Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills and proven ability to exercise sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
•    Ability to work in a fluid and challenging work environment with changing deadlines
•    Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with members, office staff, stakeholders and the general public
•    Excellent communication skills 
•    Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with HRIS (SAP SuccessFactors preferred)
•    Previous consumer products industry a plus specifically within a unionized environment
